While walking about the busy streets of Thamel, you will come across a traditional house built in the Pagoda architectural style, appended with marvelously adorned wood carved windows doors and brick walls at a glance, you will see that the building which has been taken care of lovingly and graciously maintained. This is the Thamel House Restaurant, a traditional restaurant with fine Nepali and Newari cuisine. Built over nearly 150 year ago for a Newar family with skilled craftsman's work which can be seen in the peacock window "mayur jhya" of the building. Inside, the restaurant's tasteful decor blends with the warm atmosphere of the house. The ceilings have been finished with local wooden panel. Such preservation of the old ways of living, lends to a uniquely special dining experience. The Kathmandu Valley's buildings and carving skills were very fine, allowing an atmosphere of tranquility and beauty for the Thamel House Restaurant. The window opens to a courtyard where now table and chair are arranged which oversees the stage where every evening cultural program is performs. Clients can enjoy the both the food and the program at same time.
